Philadelphia Union have added Neil Pierre to their roster under a short-term agreement. The club announced that the homegrown defender will be available for tonight’s match against the New York Red Bulls. Pierre joins as an off-roster Homegrown player.

According to Major League Soccer’s 2025 roster rules, off-roster Homegrown players can only participate in league matches as short-term call-ups. These players must be 21 years old or younger and may appear in up to six league games per season as call-ups. They are eligible to remain off-roster Homegrowns while on their initial MLS contract if they meet the age requirement.

The Union stated: “Per the 2025 MLS Roster Rules and Regulations, off-roster Homegrown Players are ineligible for MLS League Season competition except as short-term call-ups. Off-Roster Homegrown Players may appear as short-term call ups in up to six MLS League Season matches per Season. Such player must be 21 years old or younger during a calendar year to be eligible as an Off-Roster Homegrown player. Subject to the age limitations, players may continue to be Off-Roster Homegrowns, so long as they remain on their initial MLS contract.”

This is Philadelphia’s tenth such call-up of the year, though Pierre has not yet played in a league match.

Pierre is a defender who stands at 6’5” and weighs 176 pounds. He was born on October 19, 2007, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and holds United States citizenship.
