After a two-week break, Philadelphia Union will return to Major League Soccer action this weekend as they travel to face Vancouver Whitecaps in a cross-conference matchup. The game is scheduled for Saturday at 9:30 p.m. ET and will be available on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.

Philadelphia Union currently lead the league after 29 matches, maintaining their position at the top of both the Eastern Conference and the Supporters’ Shield standings. Their most recent victory was a 1-0 win over second-place FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium on August 30. The team has not played since then due to the FIFA international break and a scheduled bye week. With five regular season games remaining, Philadelphia is in contention for the Supporters’ Shield, with both themselves and Vancouver still able to claim the trophy.

“We have the table in the gym. We know we’re sitting at the top, and we’re the only team to have clinched in the east, which is all great,” midfielder Quinn Sullivan said after training on Wednesday. “But, we’re taking it game by game. We know how important this last stretch is, and every point is going to matter.”

Vancouver Whitecaps are led by first-year head coach Jesper Sørensen, who took charge in January. The club currently sits third in the Western Conference with 49 points and holds two games in hand over San Diego and Minnesota—the teams ahead of them.

Brian White has been Vancouver’s leading scorer this season with 14 goals. However, attention has shifted to new Designated Player Thomas Müller—a former Bayern Munich player—who joined as a free agent on August 6. Müller scored a decisive penalty kick against St. Louis CITY during his debut match for Vancouver.

Both clubs began their seasons under new head coaches with preseason training camps held on adjacent fields in Marbella, Spain. Each side features a mix of young talent and experienced players as well as strong goal differentials within MLS’s top five teams.

The upcoming fixture will be important for both sides: Vancouver seeks its third straight playoff appearance while Philadelphia aims for its third consecutive win to maintain their lead atop the league standings.
