After a decisive 6-0 victory over D.C. United on Saturday, three Philadelphia Union players have been recognized in Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday. Indiana Vassilev, Milan Iloski, and Mikael Uhre received honors for their performances.
The win allowed Philadelphia Union to maintain their position at the top of the league standings. The club now holds at least a four-point lead with 63 points after 32 games played.
Vassilev was named to the Team of the Matchday Starting XI after scoring two goals during his 65 minutes on the field. This performance brought his season totals to five goals and four assists in 29 matches.
Milan Iloski earned a spot on the Team of the Matchday bench. The forward scored one goal and assisted twice during the match. Since joining Philadelphia Union in August, Iloski has contributed two goals and five assists in seven regular season appearances.
“It was big for us, we wanted to come in here and get back-to-back wins. You can hear our fans, we do it for them. They’re unbelievable,” Iloski said after the match.
“We had to come out here and get a good result. It’s a tight race for the Supporters’ Shield, so really important for us to get a win out here.”
Early in Saturday’s game, Quinn Sullivan left due to injury just 13 minutes into play. Head Coach Bradley Carnell substituted Mikael Uhre, who made an immediate impact by assisting Bruno Damiani for Philadelphia’s first goal in the 17th minute. Uhre later scored himself and provided another assist before adding a second goal in the 65th minute, finishing with two goals and an assist overall.
With this latest goal, Uhre moved into third place among all-time Union scorers with 37 MLS goals, surpassing C.J. Sapong. This season he has accumulated five goals and six assists.
