The Philadelphia Union, together with goalkeeper Andre Blake, has launched a relief drive to assist families in Jamaica affected by Hurricane Melissa. The club is collecting essential items that will be sent to help people recover and maintain their health after the storm.
Donations can be made at three designated locations during the team’s playoff watch parties on Saturday, November 1. The venues include Brauhaus Schmitz on South Street in Philadelphia, Chickie’s & Pete’s in Drexel Hill, and P.J. Whelihan’s in Downingtown.
Blake is a three-time Major League Soccer goalkeeper of the year and serves as captain for both the Philadelphia Union and the Jamaican National Team. He grew up in May Pen, Jamaica, before attending the University of Connecticut and joining Philadelphia professionally.
The drive accepts hygiene products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, brushes, deodorant; medical supplies including hand sanitizer or wipes, first aid kits, insect repellent, sunscreen, diapers, Advil or Tylenol; non-perishable snacks like granola bars and canned goods; water bottles or Pedialyte; trail mix; protein bars; protein shakes; baby formula; cleaning and house supplies such as tarps, trash bags, Ziploc bags, batteries, chargers, emergency sleeping bags and tents; laundry detergent; and flashlights.
“Upon collection, the club will send essential items to help those impacted rebuild, recover, and stay healthy in the aftermath of the storm,” according to the organization.
