The Philadelphia Union have reached a key milestone in their 2025 season, sitting at the top of both the Eastern Conference and Supporters’ Shield standings after 25 matches. The club is the first team to reach 50 points this year.

This achievement follows an offseason marked by change, including the hiring of Head Coach Bradley Carnell and several young player signings. These moves aimed to strengthen a roster already built on experienced players and youth developed through the Union’s academy system.

Players and staff attribute much of their success to teamwork and shared vision. Defender Jakob Glesnes said, “We are pushing each other as a team to get better, and that’s what we need to do now in the final stretch of the season, because we want to end where we are now — on the top.” Head Coach Bradley Carnell noted, “The group is galvanized. We’re having fun. We’re just enjoying the moment and pushing each other every single day.”

Striker Mikael Uhre reflected on past momentum: “We saw it in 2022 that when we got on a roll, and then it was really tough for guys to play against us when you have that momentum. Now, it’s just about keeping that going.” Defender Olwethu Makhanya emphasized unity: “We believe in everyone – the younger guys, the older guys, the mentality. We believe in each other, and as long as we believe in each other, then we have what it takes.”

Midfielder Jesus Bueno described team chemistry as central: “Creo que la linda familia que se ha ido formado este año nos a ayudado a hacer un mejor equipo… creo que esa a sido la clave para el Ă©xito que llevamos.” He added in translation: “The beautiful family that has formed this year has helped us become a better team. We’re now just a simple group of friends being happy with a ball, and I think that’s been the key to our success.”

Indiana Vassilev highlighted trust within the squad: “There is trust, respect, and a clear vision shared between us all which is a recipe for success.” Tai Baribo pointed out character as an important factor: “There is something special about this locker room. Of course, we have good players, but a lot of teams have good players. I think there is something special about the character of these players.”

Markus Anderson commented on internal competition: “The competition pushes all of us to stay sharp – nobody gets too comfortable… That mix keeps the level high without losing the unity. You can feel that energy every day…” Assistant Coach Frank Leicht discussed training standards: “It’s a group with a lot of passion… It’s sometimes hard for us coaches to pick the right XI because everybody is doing great in training and deserves to start at the weekend.”

Defender Nathan Harriel summed up team identity: “That’s our DNA — hard to play against, we’ll never back down, we never give up. This team has so much heart and so much grit…”

With nine regular season games left plus one rescheduled US Open Cup semifinal match remaining before playoffs begin later this fall (https://www.mlssoccer.com/competitions/mls-regular-season/standings), Philadelphia will look to maintain its position at or near first place heading into postseason play.
