Philadelphia Union II lost 3-1 to New England Revolution II in a Sunday afternoon match at Subaru Park. The visitors scored three times in the first half, with two goals coming from Liam Butts, a Guyanese national team player. An own goal by Union II, resulting from a miscommunication between defender Neil Pierre and goalkeeper Mike Sheridan, added to the deficit.

Union II made several substitutions during the match in an effort to shift momentum. At halftime, Noah Probst replaced Pierre on the backline. In the 64th minute, Sal Olivas, Malik Jakupovic, Kaiden Moore—who joined on loan from Atlanta United 2—and Willyam Ferreira entered the game for Eddy Davis II, Jordan Griffin, Giovanny Sequera, and Cavan Sullivan.

Four yellow cards were issued in the 73rd minute, split evenly between both teams. Shortly after, Damario McIntosh of New England received a second yellow card and was sent off.

Malik Jakupovic scored Philadelphia’s only goal in the 90th minute. Despite playing with a man advantage late in the match and making multiple lineup changes, Union II could not overcome New England’s early lead.

Philadelphia Union II will play their next match away against FC Cincinnati 2 at NKU Soccer Stadium on August 31.
