Philadelphia Union II secured a place in the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference Final for the second consecutive year after defeating Huntsville City FC 1-0 on Saturday. The match, held at Subaru Park, was characterized by strong defensive play from both teams, resulting in a scoreless first half.
Union II maintained their high pressing style and direct attacking approach throughout the game. The decisive moment came when Stas Korzeniowski earned a penalty kick and converted it, marking his second straight postseason game with a goal.
Head Coach Ryan Richter included six players from the Supporters’ Shield side in the starting lineup, with a seventh available as a substitute. Homegrown goalkeeper Andrew Rick started in goal, while team captain Nick Pariano moved to left back. The defensive line also featured Neil Pierre, Rafael Uzcategui, and Giovanny Sequera. Oscar Benitez played alongside CJ Olney in midfield, with Markus Anderson and Willyam Ferreira occupying advanced roles. Eddy Davis III returned to partner Korzeniowski up front.
The opening minutes saw both teams commit several fouls, reflecting the intensity of playoff soccer. Union II created more scoring opportunities in the first half but were unable to capitalize until Korzeniowski’s penalty conversion in the 67th minute.
Huntsville City FC increased their offensive pressure late in the match but were unable to break through Union II’s defense. Substitutions by Richter helped maintain energy levels as Union II defended their lead through stoppage time.
With this victory, Philadelphia Union II advances to face either New York Red Bulls II or Chicago Fire II in the Eastern Conference Final. If Chicago wins their semifinal match, Union II will host at Subaru Park; if New York Red Bulls II win, Union II will travel to New Jersey for the final.
The result continues Union II’s run of strong postseason performances and keeps them in contention for an MLS NEXT Pro title.
