Philadelphia Union were eliminated from the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup after a 3-1 defeat to Nashville SC in the semifinals at GEODIS Park on Tuesday night. Sam Surridge scored all three goals for Nashville, with his first coming in the 36th minute and his second shortly after halftime. Quinn Sullivan reduced the deficit for Philadelphia in the 70th minute, but Surridge completed his hat trick in the 84th minute.
The match saw several cautions issued to Philadelphia players, including Bruno Damiani, Frankie Westfield, Olwethu Makhanya, Milan Iloski, and Kai Wagner. For Nashville, Dan Lovitz and Hany Mukhtar received yellow cards.
Sal Olivas made his U.S. Open Cup debut as a substitute for Philadelphia late in the match.
Philadelphia will return to Major League Soccer action this Saturday when they host New England Revolution at Subaru Park.
