Philadelphia Union and Toronto FC played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening at Subaru Park. The match saw both teams score, with Indiana Vassilev putting the Union ahead early before Deandre Kerr equalized for Toronto in stoppage time.

The Union started strong, scoring in the fourth minute after a coordinated play involving seven players. Tai Baribo provided the assist to Vassilev, who finished past Toronto’s backup goalkeeper Luka Gavran. “The midfielder capped off a seven-player sequence that was directly and methodical to set up a 1v1 chance for Vassilev who was clinical to put home the pass from Tai Baribo.”

Toronto had opportunities in the first half, including a breakaway by Djordje Mihailovic that was stopped by Jakob Glesnes. Glesnes received a yellow card in the 28th minute, which will keep him out of the next match due to accumulation.

At halftime, Philadelphia led 1-0 and kept their lineup unchanged for the second half. Early in the half, Baribo appeared to score but was ruled offside after review.

Head Coach Bradley Carnell made substitutions in the 67th minute, bringing on Mikael Uhre and new signing Milan Iloski. Uhre had recently scored twice as a substitute against Colorado Rapids.

Late in the match, Andre Blake made an important save on Kevin Long’s shot from a corner kick. Shortly after, Danley Jean Jacques forced Gavran into another save with a shot from outside the box.

In stoppage time, Deandre Kerr scored for Toronto following a cross from Malik Henry. “The chippy contest between the Eastern Conference foes looked destined to finish with that scoreline but a late goal from Toronto FC’s Deandre Kerr in the first minute of stoppage time saw the two sides depart Chester with a point each.”

Philadelphia will face New York Red Bulls twice next week, starting Wednesday at Subaru Park as they compete for a spot in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinals.
