Philadelphia Union has appointed Chris Harmon as the new head coach of its U-18 academy team. Harmon joins the club after working as an assistant coach for Austin FC II during the 2024 and 2025 MLS NEXT Pro seasons.
While at Austin FC II, Harmon contributed to the team’s victory in the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Invitational. The match took place on July 27, with Austin FC II defeating Cancún FC at Parmer Field at St. David’s Performance Center to secure the inaugural title. Harmon also played a part in advancing two players from Austin FC II to sign first-team contracts with Austin FC.
Harmon is originally from Downingtown, Pennsylvania. He played collegiate soccer at Old Dominion University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. His coaching career began as an assistant coach at Florida Southern College before he returned to Old Dominion in a similar role. He later worked as head coach and assistant academy director at Barça Residency Academy and served as U-17 head coach at New York Red Bulls Academy before joining Austin FC II.
