Philadelphia Union and Penn Medicine announced on Apr. 29 that they will host a non-perishable food drive during the team’s home games in May to support the Penn Medicine Community Fridge. The collection will take place on Saturday, May 2 and Saturday, May 16 at the U-Serve tent located on Subaru Plaza.

The initiative is being held in recognition of World Hunger Day on May 28. Organizers say the effort continues Philadelphia Union’s commitment to volunteerism through its U-Serve platform, which is presented by Bimbo Bakeries USA. U-Serve connects fans with volunteer opportunities throughout Greater Philadelphia and offers rewards such as team merchandise and exclusive experiences for participants.

“In honor of World Hunger Day on May 28th, Penn Medicine and Philadelphia Union will be holding a non-perishable food drive during home games in May to help fill our Penn Medicine Community Fridge. On Saturday, May 2nd and Saturday, May 16th please drop off items at the U-Serve tent located on Subaru Plaza!” said organizers in a statement.

Philadelphia Union functions as a professional soccer team in Major League Soccer, focused on representing the city in elite competition while fostering fan involvement, youth programs and community ties, according to the official website. The club operates out of Subaru Park—a soccer-specific stadium situated along Chester’s waterfront—which also includes a training center and several practice fields according to the official website.

The organization achieved notable success by winning Major League Soccer’s Supporters’ Shield for best regular-season performance in 2020 according to its official website. Fans attending matches can access tickets for professional soccer matches featuring players from its main roster as reported by the club’s official site.

For more information about volunteering or upcoming opportunities related to this initiative, supporters are encouraged to visit U-Serve or stop by the tent during match days.
