The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team has named its captains for the 2025-26 season. Head coach Matt Valenti announced that Kelly Dunnigan, Sean Seefeldt, and Jude Swisher will lead the team in the upcoming year.
Valenti explained the decision behind the selections, stating, “Our captains this year were selected not just for what they have accomplished on the mat, but how they have carried themselves along the way – consistent, accountable, and committed to building something bigger than themselves.”
Senior Kelly Dunnigan finished last season with an 8-5 record. He started and won a dual at 149 pounds against Sacred Heart’s Dakota Asuncion by technical fall. Dunnigan expressed his appreciation for being chosen as captain: “Being named captain for Penn wrestling is an honor. This program has pushed me, challenged me, and helped me grow on and off the mat. I’ve learned what it means to show up every day, to lead by example, and to keep going when things get tough. My goal is simple: to leave this program better than when I came in.”
Junior Sean Seefeldt returns after missing last season. In 2023-24 he recorded a 10-8 mark and placed eighth at the F&M Open with wins over competitors from Lock Haven, Princeton, Navy, and Hofstra. Seefeldt said about his selection: “It’s a blessing to be named captain. This program is special, and this opportunity is special to me. I’m excited to keep building and leading with this group.”
Junior Jude Swisher comes off a strong sophomore campaign where he posted a 26-9 overall record with a 10-4 dual record. Swisher was runner-up at 149 pounds at the first Ivy League Championships and qualified for the 2025 NCAA Championships after notable victories over nationally ranked opponents from SDSU, Harvard, and Northern Iowa. He also earned Second Team All-Ivy honors last season. Swisher commented on his new role: “I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve this team. The Build is growing stronger day by day!”
The Quakers are set to begin their season on November 9 at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic.
