Penn wrestling falls to Columbia in Ivy League opener

The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team, ranked 22nd nationally, was defeated by Columbia University in its Ivy League opener at the Palestra on Saturday night. The final score was 23-13 in favor of Columbia.

Penn led 13-3 at halftime but Columbia won the last five matches to secure the victory. With this result, Columbia improved its season record to 5-3, while Penn dropped to 4-1.

Points for Penn came from victories by #13 Evan Mougalian (133 lbs), #7 CJ Composto (141 lbs), #8 Cross Wasilewski (149 lbs), and Jude Swisher (157 lbs). Senior CJ Composto and sophomore Cross Wasilewski both remained undefeated in dual meets, with records of 2-0 and 5-0 respectively.

Lance Urbas (174 lbs), Liam Carlin (184 lbs), and John Vinciguerra made their dual meet debuts for Penn during the match against Columbia.

Looking ahead, Penn will travel to New England next weekend to face Brown University on Saturday at noon.
