The University of Pennsylvania women’s soccer team secured a 1-0 win over George Mason on Sunday at Rhodes Field, moving their season record to 2-0-1. The Patriots dropped to 0-3-1 after the match.
Taylor Ferraro scored her first goal of the season and the second of her career in the 17th minute. Ferraro capitalized on a rebound from her own blocked shot following a corner kick, providing the only goal of the match.
Penn’s defense was effective throughout, not allowing George Mason any shots in the first half. The Quakers outshot their opponents 21-5 overall and held a 13-2 advantage in shots on goal. They also earned nine corner kicks, their highest total so far this season.
Goalkeeper Annabel Austen maintained her clean sheet streak by stopping both shots on target she faced from George Mason. The Quakers have yet to concede a goal this year, outscoring opponents 6-0 through three games.
Penn will now prepare for upcoming road matches against Fairleigh Dickinson on September 4 and Lafayette on September 7.
