The University of Pennsylvania’s women’s basketball team will travel to Austin to face the University of Texas on November 30, 2025. The game will mark the end of Thanksgiving weekend and is part of Penn’s updated 2025-26 schedule.
Texas finished last season with a record of 35-4 and reached the Women’s Final Four, losing to South Carolina, who went on to win the NCAA championship. Three of Texas’ four losses were against South Carolina.
“Playing a team like Texas presents a fantastic opportunity for our team,” said Mike McLaughlin, Penn’s head coach and the program’s all-time winningest coach. “They are a great program led by a great coach in Vic Schaefer. It’s also an opportunity to bring a few of our players back to their home state during the Thanksgiving holiday, as Ese Ogbevire is from Katy and Ashna Tambe is from Plano. We are always looking to give our players experiences that they will remember for the rest of their lives, and so we are excited to spend Thanksgiving weekend in Austin and soaking in the atmosphere that comes with playing a team of Texas’ caliber.”
The matchup will have special significance for some Penn players returning to play in their home state. Additionally, there is historical context between these programs; Texas previously played at The Palestra in Philadelphia during the 1982 Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) championship game against Rutgers. That contest was notable as it was the last AIAW title game before the NCAA began hosting its own national championship tournament for women’s basketball.
