The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team is set to host Drexel University this Saturday at noon at the Hecht Tennis Center in Philadelphia. The match, known as the “Battle of 33rd Street,” will see the Quakers attempt to improve their season record after a challenging weekend.

Last weekend, Penn faced Michigan and Notre Dame during the ITA Kick-Off event, losing both matches. Their current record stands at 2-2 for the season.

According to the team, “Penn was not able to win any completed singles or doubles matches against either team. Many of the matches were abandoned.” The most competitive match featured Varsha Vedula from Penn against Michigan’s Laura Rahnel, with Vedula taking it to a third set before it was stopped with a score tied at one set each. Additionally, Maya Urata and Joleen Saw also reached third sets in their singles matches against Michigan before those contests were abandoned.

Looking ahead, Drexel enters Saturday’s match with a 1-1 record after falling to Fordham and defeating Saint Joseph’s. Anastasia Kavounov has started her season strong by winning both of her singles matches. In doubles play, Kavounov and partner Rebecca Fiedler secured a win against Saint Joseph’s, as did Sofia Snitko and Christine Fourie.
