Penn women’s tennis secures multiple wins at UD Invite

The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team participated in the UD Invite this past weekend, facing off against teams from Syracuse, Villanova, NJIT, and host Delaware.

On Friday, Penn’s doubles pair Liza Tkachenko and Joleen Saw won their match against Syracuse’s Anastasia Sysoeva and Constance Levivier with a score of 6-4. The following day, Maya Urata and Varsha Vedula secured another doubles victory for Penn by defeating Villanova’s Maggie Gehrig and Emi Callahan 7-5.

In singles play on Saturday, Tkachenko overcame Villanova’s Maddie Hills (3-6, 7-6, 10-6), while Vedula also notched a win against Miriam Gondorova (6-3, 4-6, 11-9). On Sunday, Saw earned a singles victory over Delaware’s Amelia Gorman (7-6, 6-2).

The team is now preparing for the upcoming Cissie Leary Invitational. The event will take place at the Hamlin and Hecht Tennis Centers from Friday, October 3 through Sunday, October 5.
