The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team lost to the University of South Florida on Mar. 9 in Tampa, with a final score of 6-1.

This match marked the first contest of Penn’s road trip in the south. The Quakers fell behind early after dropping both completed doubles matches, giving South Florida an initial lead heading into singles play.

Maya Urata secured Penn’s only point by winning her singles match in the second spot against Sienna Leeson, finishing with scores of 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. Despite strong efforts from Lara Stojanovski, Joleen Saw, and Varsha Vedula—each forcing their matches into three sets—the Quakers were unable to add more wins.

The overall results saw USF take victories in most singles and doubles contests. After this loss, Penn’s season record stands at an even 6-6.

Looking ahead, the Quakers will travel to Orlando for their next match against Xavier on Wednesday.
