The University of Pennsylvania women’s soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Columbia in New York on Sunday. The result moves Penn to a record of 4-3-5 overall and 0-2-2 in Ivy League play, while Columbia stands at 4-5-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the league.

Junior Abbey Cook led Penn with her fourth goal of the season, maintaining her position as the team’s top scorer and point leader with nine points. Junior Magali Capdevila added her first goal of the season, which is the third of her collegiate career. Senior goalkeeper Annabel Austen recorded a season-high eight saves during the match.

The match marked Penn’s fifth draw of the year, with three games ending in a 2-2 scoreline.

The game began with both teams adopting a cautious approach. Penn’s Mallory Lucas had an early chance in the ninth minute but missed high. The scoring opened in the 26th minute when freshman Kylie Emanuel assisted Cook, who finished from close range to give Penn the lead.

Columbia responded by increasing their offensive pressure, but Austen managed four first-half saves to keep Penn ahead. In the 35th minute, Avery Chapel intercepted a ball at midfield and passed to Lucas, who found Cook. Cook then set up Capdevila for Penn’s second goal.

Columbia controlled much of the second half, outshooting Penn 14-1 and earning eight corner kicks. At the 70th minute, Annie Faraone scored from distance for Columbia’s first goal. Faraone added another later in the half after sustained pressure and multiple corners.

Penn has now recorded consecutive 2-2 draws and will return home to face Cornell at Rhodes Field on Saturday.
