The University of Pennsylvania women’s soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Drexel on Thursday night at Rhodes Field. This match marked the second game of the season for both teams.

With this result, Penn’s record stands at 1-0-1, while Drexel moves to 1-0-4 early in the season. The match was characterized by strong defensive efforts from both sides.

Senior goalkeeper Annabel Austen made five saves during the contest and has yet to concede a goal this season, recording two shutouts and seven saves so far. Junior Abbey Cook led Penn offensively with two shots on goal. Teammates Kylie Emanuel, Mia Fuss, and Mallory Lucas each added one shot on goal.

This draw brings Penn’s all-time record against Drexel to 9-3-2. The last tie between these teams occurred on September 18, 2016.

In the first half, both defenses limited opportunities, resulting in only four total shots and two saves by Austen. The pace changed in the second half as offensive chances increased. Around the 46th minute, Drexel’s Lea Kemp had a chance near goal that was stopped by Austen. Shortly after, Emanuel nearly scored for Penn following a pass across the middle but was denied by a team save from Drexel.

Penn’s best opportunity came when Lauren Stevens crossed to Emanuel, whose shot went just wide of the target. Throughout the match, Penn held Drexel to seven total shots while maintaining defensive organization.

The Quakers will next face George Mason at home on Sunday at 2 p.m., concluding their three-match homestand that opens the 2025 season.
