The University of Pennsylvania women’s soccer team was defeated by Brown University 4-0 in an Ivy League match held in Providence, Rhode Island. With this result, Brown’s record improves to 8-2-2 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play, while Penn drops to 4-3-3 overall and 0-2-1 in the Ivy League.

Penn utilized a deep roster during the game, with 20 players participating. Senior Sarah Sullivan and freshman Leah Lynch both made appearances. Senior goalkeeper Annabel Austen recorded six saves against Brown, marking her third game this season with at least five saves. Sophomore Lily White contributed two shots in just 15 minutes on the field.

Brown started the match aggressively, registering eight shots and three on target within the first ten minutes. Despite pressure from Brown, Austen made several early saves to keep Penn competitive. The first goal came in the 25th minute when Brown’s Kyra Treanor assisted Corine Gregory for a one-timer past Austen.

Penn responded with increased offensive activity after conceding but was unable to convert opportunities into goals. Their first shot came at the 31st minute from Lily White but was saved by Brown’s goalkeeper Bella Schopp.

In the second half, play evened out until the 54th minute when a turnover allowed Brown’s Jael-Marie Guy to score their second goal. One minute later, Joy Okonye converted a penalty kick following a foul in the box, extending Brown’s lead to three goals. In the final minutes of regulation, Brown added another goal to secure a four-goal victory.

Penn will aim to recover from this loss as they prepare to host NJIT on Wednesday at Rhodes Field.
