The University of Pennsylvania women’s lacrosse team lost to sixth-ranked Florida, 18-9, on March 11 during its first road trip of the season.

The game was marked by a strong start from Penn, but a ten-goal run by Florida in the second half created a gap that proved too large for the Quakers to close. The loss brings Penn’s record to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in Ivy League play.

Sophomore midfielder Lela Greene led Penn with her first hat trick of the season, scoring three goals and recording a season-high three points. Regan O’Brien added two goals, while Catherine Berkery, Avery Le, Eden Welch, and Mae Zaremba each contributed one goal. Le’s goal was the first of her collegiate career. Maggie Bankowski won five draw controls for Penn, and goalkeeper Orly Sedransk made 14 saves during the match.

The game began with both teams trading early goals before Penn took a brief lead at the end of the first quarter. After building a four-goal advantage in the second quarter, Penn saw its momentum halted as Florida responded with multiple goals before halftime and continued their scoring streak into the third and fourth quarters.

Looking ahead, Penn will conclude its road trip at USA Lacrosse Headquarters on Sunday, March 15 against No. 22 Georgetown at 1 p.m.
