The University of Pennsylvania women’s lacrosse team lost to the University of Maryland Terrapins, 15-9, in a game played on March 19 in College Park. The defeat brings Penn’s record to 3-5 for the season, while Maryland remains undefeated at 9-0.

This matchup was significant as it pitted Penn against one of the top-ranked teams in the country. Despite the loss, Penn showed a balanced offensive effort with four players contributing all nine goals.

Lela Greene led the Quakers with three goals, earning a hat trick. Orly Sedransk made 11 saves during the game, bringing her season total to 78. Eden Welch and Regan O’Brien each provided an assist for Penn.

Maryland started strong, scoring several quick goals in the opening minutes. After falling behind early, Penn responded with goals from Greene and O’Brien before halftime. However, Maryland extended its lead to eight by midway through the contest. In the third quarter, Penn scored three unanswered goals from Greene, Catherine Berkery, and Patricia Columbia-Walsh but could not close the gap completely. Both teams added three more goals each in the final quarter as Maryland secured its victory.

Looking ahead, Penn will have a week off before facing Ivy League rival Columbia on Saturday, March 28 at Franklin Field.
