The University of Pennsylvania women’s lacrosse team secured a 10-9 double-overtime victory against No. 21 Princeton on Apr. 8, with Lela Greene scoring the game-winning goal. The win marked the start of Penn’s three-game road trip and kept the Quakers undefeated in Ivy League play at 4-0, while Princeton fell to 2-2.
This result is significant as it also represented the 300th career win for Lois S. Leitner Head Coach Karin Brower. Patricia Columbia-Walsh led Penn offensively with five points, including a career-high four goals, while Greene recorded her third hat trick of the season.
Eden Welch contributed two goals and Catherine Berkery added one for Penn. On defense, Natasha Yajadda caused four turnovers as part of a team total of thirteen forced turnovers, compared to eight by Princeton. Goalkeeper Orly Sedransk made ten saves for her sixth double-digit save performance this year.
The game saw both teams trading leads throughout regulation time. After trailing early in the second quarter, Penn responded with key goals from Columbia-Walsh and Greene to keep pace with Princeton before tying the score at halftime. The second half continued closely contested until Welch tied it at nine late in the fourth quarter, sending the match into overtime after crucial saves by both goalkeepers.
In double overtime, Maggie Bankowski won an important draw control that set up Greene’s decisive goal and clinched victory for Penn.
Looking ahead, Penn (6-5 overall) will continue its road trip by facing No. 5 Yale on Saturday, April 11.
