The University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s track and field teams will participate in the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina from March 26-28, and the Hurricane Invitational in Florida from March 27-28, according to a statement released on Mar. 25.
These upcoming meets are significant as they provide athletes with opportunities to compete against strong fields early in the outdoor season. The events will be held at Paul Derr Track and Field Facility in Raleigh, N.C., and Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables, Fla.
Last weekend, Penn hosted the Penn Challenger at Franklin Field. Freshman Thomas Bucks won the men’s pole vault by clearing 5.18 meters (17′ 0″). In the women’s pole vault, Evangeline Thomson took first place with a mark of 3.68 meters (12′ 0.75″), followed by Rebecca Hoover in second place with the same height cleared.
Other notable performances included Adannia Agbo winning the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.62 meters (18′ 5.25″) and Isabella Tront tying for second place in high jump after clearing 1.66 meters (5′ 5.25″). On the track, Annika Topchy won the women’s 400m with a time of 57.30 seconds while David Davitt achieved a personal best of 48.05 seconds to win the men’s event.
Additional highlights featured Daniella Oyenuga finishing second in the women’s 100m at 11.95 seconds, Lara Cota placing first in women’s 3000m with a time of 9:46.53, Jailyn Milord winning the women’s 200m at a time of 24.12 seconds, and Ryan Matulonis taking first place in men’s 200m at a time of 21.87 seconds.
Thomas Bucks is currently ranked among NCAA’s top-25 athletes for pole vault this season.
Looking ahead, Penn is scheduled to compete next at Princeton’s Sam Howell Invitational on April 4 before heading to Athens for Spec Towns Invitational on April 10–11.
