The University of Pennsylvania’s men’s and women’s track and field teams completed the second day of competition at the Raleigh Relays on March 28, hosted by North Carolina State University.

The event is significant as it features top collegiate athletes from across the country, providing a platform for strong performances early in the outdoor season. For Penn, several athletes achieved notable results that could impact their standings in both the Ivy League and NCAA rankings.

Lily Murphy finished tenth in the women’s 10,000-meter invitational with a time of 32:51.40. This result currently places her tenth nationally in the NCAA and first among Ivy League competitors. In other distance events, L’Mio Edwards ran 4:26.13 in the women’s 1,500 meters, just ahead of teammate Alexa Matora who clocked 4:26.34. Gabrielle Jones recorded a time of 16:50.32 to finish sixty-third out of two hundred twenty athletes in the women’s five thousand meters.

In field events, freshman Thomas Bucks placed fifth in the men’s pole vault invitational by clearing a height of 5.17 meters (16 feet, eleven-and-a-half inches). Kampton Kam cleared two-point-zero-six meters (six feet nine inches) to take eighth place in the men’s high jump while Samantha Strydesky and Zofia Limbert each jumped one-point-six-seven meters (five feet five-and-three-quarters inches) for thirteenth and nineteenth place respectively in their event.

Competition also took place at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida where Angel Asaah finished eighth with a discus throw of fifty-one-point-one-five meters (167 feet nine inches), while Stella Inman was seventh with forty-one-point-six-three meters (136 feet seven inches).

Looking ahead, Penn’s teams will conclude their participation at both meets with additional events scheduled for March 29.
