The University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are set to compete against Drexel University in a dual meet on Tuesday. The event will take place at Drexel, with the competition scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

In their most recent outing, the Penn men’s team split a tri-meet, securing a win over Dartmouth but losing to Yale. This result brings their season record to 2-4. The women’s team achieved victories over both Dartmouth and Yale, improving their record to 7-1.

Sophomore Eddie Jin has been performing well for the men’s team. In the last meet against Yale and Dartmouth, Jin finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:35.52, setting a new pool record for that event. He also placed second in both the 100 freestyle (44.47) and as part of the 400 freestyle relay (2:59.97). Another sophomore, Max Malakhovets, won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:45.68, which is also a pool record.

Junior Peter Whittington continued his strong performances by finishing second in both the 200 butterfly (1:45.81) and the 200 breaststroke (1:57.67). The team’s score of 184 points against Dartmouth was its highest this season.

On the women’s side, Penn defeated Yale for the first time in nearly four decades by winning twelve events during their last meet. Their score of 231 points against Dartmouth marked their best performance this year.

Eight pool records were broken by Penn’s women swimmers during that meet—these included records in events such as both backstroke distances (100 & 200), both butterfly distances (100 & 200), three freestyle races (200, 500 & 1000), and the individual medley (200 IM).

Junior Kate Levensten took first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.82 seconds and tied for first with Katya Eruslanova in the 200 backstroke at 1:56.91; Eruslanova also won both the 200 freestyle (1:48.13) and the individual medley (1:59.70). Senior Anna Moehn led her races in both distance freestyles—the 500-yard race at 4:47.09 and the mile at 9:41.43—while Maggie Hu claimed victory in two butterfly events.

Drexel’s men’s team comes into this contest undefeated at 3-0 after wins over La Salle, Seton Hall, and Lehigh; they also finished second at the West Virginia Invitational this season so far. Senior Sebastian Smith has accumulated eight event wins across various disciplines including sprints and medleys while junior Theo Andreopoulos holds multiple top finishes in backstroke events.

The Drexel women’s squad holds a record of two wins, one loss, and one tie this season after beating Seton Hall and Lehigh while tying La Salle earlier on opening day competition; sophomore Brittany Corbett has consistently placed highly in distance freestyle races while Harper Barrowman excelled recently against Seton Hall.
