The University of Pennsylvania softball team will play its last non-conference game of the season against Villanova at Penn Park, according to an April 21 announcement.

This matchup is important as the Quakers are currently in fourth place in the Ivy League standings, holding a narrow lead over Brown for a spot in the Ivy League Tournament. The outcome of this game could influence their momentum heading into the remainder of conference play.

Penn enters the contest with a record of 16-21 overall and 7-8 in Ivy League games. The team’s history against Villanova includes a series record of 28 wins, 52 losses, and three ties. Last year’s meeting ended with both teams tied at 12 runs each. Penn’s most recent victory over Villanova came in 2024 with a score of 4-1.

Head coach Christie Novatin recently reached her milestone thirtieth career win at Penn following a victory over Harvard. Jaz Johnson continues to be a standout player for the Quakers, leading the Ivy League with twelve stolen bases so far this season.

Villanova comes into Wednesday’s matchup with an overall record of ten wins and thirty-five losses. Their victories include games against Bucknell, DePaul, Monmouth, Saint Joseph’s, Georgetown, and Seton Hall. Maddie Burrows leads Villanova offensively with a .342 batting average along with ten doubles and ten runs batted in this year. On defense, Kat Gallant has tallied forty-three strikeouts across sixteen appearances on the mound.

The game is scheduled for Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., offering fans an opportunity to follow live stats or watch online.
