The University of Pennsylvania softball team earned a 7-6 victory over Yale on April 5, completing a three-game sweep against the Bulldogs.
This marks the Quakers’ first Ivy League series sweep since they won three consecutive games against Cornell in 2019. The result highlights a notable achievement for the program as it continues its conference schedule.
Jaz Johnson contributed significantly to Penn’s offense, collecting her fifth and sixth hits of the weekend. Delaney Smith also played a key role, going three-for-three at the plate with two doubles. The Quakers took an early lead by scoring three runs in the second inning through a combination of aggressive baserunning and capitalizing on Yale’s mistakes, including wild pitches and errors. They added another run in the third before Yale responded with two runs of their own.
Johnson and Smith continued their strong performances by driving in three more runs for Penn, giving them a five-run cushion heading into the final innings. However, Yale mounted a late comeback attempt in the seventh inning, taking advantage of Penn’s defensive errors to score three runs. With two outs and a runner on third base, pitcher Hannah Graveline secured her first career save by inducing a lineout to end the game.
Looking ahead, Penn is scheduled to play Monmouth in an away game this Wednesday at West Long Beach, New Jersey.
