The University of Pennsylvania softball team concluded its 2026 season with a 5-4 loss to Brown in Providence on May 2.

The result marks the end of the Quakers’ campaign, during which they showed resilience by nearly overcoming an early deficit in their final game.

Gigi Ganje and Jade Montgomery each recorded two hits to finish strong seasons. Senior Roisin Keenan made her first start of the year and reached base on a walk. Peyton Heisler contributed as a pinch hitter, delivering a two-run single.

Brown took an early lead with Abby Bettencourt’s three-run home run in the first inning. Lily Berlinge added an RBI groundout in the second, and Bettencourt drove in another run in the third, putting Penn behind 5-0 after three innings. The Quakers responded in the fifth inning when Delaney Smith drove in Penn’s first run with a groundout RBI, extending her record to 45 runs batted in. Montgomery followed with an RBI single. In the later innings, Heisler hit an infield single on a full count as a pinch hitter, bringing home two more runs for Penn.

Despite narrowing Brown’s lead late in the game, Penn was unable to complete its comeback and ended its season with a close defeat.
