The Penn Quakers will face Lafayette on April 7 at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium as part of the ongoing Liberty Bell Classic, according to an announcement on Apr. 6. The game will determine which team advances to the championship round at Citizens Bank Park.

This matchup is significant for both teams, with Penn aiming to continue its recent success after a three-win week and maintain its standing in the Ivy League conference. The winner of this contest will secure a spot in the Liberty Bell Classic final, making it a crucial fixture for postseason aspirations.

The Quakers have historically performed well against Lafayette, holding a 78-52-1 record over their past meetings and having won their last five encounters. In last season’s Liberty Bell Classic, Penn recorded a high-scoring victory over Lafayette. Currently sitting third in the Ivy League standings through nine games, Penn looks to build on its momentum following victories against Delaware State and Columbia.

Key players for Penn include Jarrett Pokrovsky, who leads the team with a .276 batting average; Gavin Degnan, who tops several offensive categories; Nick Spaventa, who leads the Ivy League with six home runs; and Gavin Collins, whose recent grand slam helped lift his batting average significantly. On defense and pitching, Marty Coyne has been recognized as Ivy League Pitcher of the Week after an impressive relief appearance against Columbia. Freshman Ben Moulin is expected to pitch during this matchup.

Lafayette enters Tuesday’s game after dropping two games against Bucknell but previously enjoyed a five-game winning streak that included wins over Holy Cross and Villanova. Their pitching staff currently holds an 8.84 earned run average—the highest in their conference—while standout batters include Liam Ebbs (.313) and Matt Colella (.300).

Penn Quakers Men’s Baseball competes at the NCAA Division I level as part of intercollegiate athletics within the University of Pennsylvania program according to the official website.
