The Penn Quakers are set to travel to West Long Branch, New Jersey, on April 15 for a non-conference baseball matchup against Monmouth. The game follows a successful week in which Penn secured four wins, including a sweep of Cornell and a victory over Lafayette in the Liberty Bell Classic semifinal.

This contest holds significance as the Quakers look to extend their six-game winning streak and improve their standing in the Ivy League. Currently holding an 8-4 conference record, Penn sits third behind Yale and Brown through twelve league games.

Infielder Jay Secretarski and co-captain Thomas Shurtleff received recognition as Ivy League Rookie and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Secretarski earned his first conference honor after collecting five hits and seven runs batted in during the week. Shurtleff was acknowledged for his performance against Cornell where he pitched six shutout innings with seven strikeouts to secure the series sweep. “The freshman claimed the first conference laurel of his career following a five-hit and seven-RBI week that included the second home run of his Quaker career,” according to the team statement.

On offense, Secretarski leads Penn with a .280 batting average and .410 on-base percentage. Junior Gavin Degnan tops several offensive categories including hits (31), doubles (nine), runs batted in (24), and runs scored (24). Nick Spaventa remains consistent at bat with six home runs—tied for most in the Ivy League—and has started all 29 games this season.

Pitching continues to be strong for Penn with a team earned run average of 5.04 over 29 games played. The staff has recorded 208 strikeouts, ranking third among Ancient Eight teams, while allowing only fifteen home runs—second fewest in conference play this year.

Monmouth enters Wednesday’s matchup leading its division with a 19-13 overall record and is coming off four consecutive wins. Six Hawks players are batting above .300 this season while Chris Walsh leads with thirty RBIs, six home runs, and a .616 slugging percentage.
