Penn men’s tennis posts strong singles results at Orange and Blue Classic

The University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team participated in the Orange and Blue Classic in Charlottesville, Virginia, over the weekend. The event included teams from Duke, VCU, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, and host school Virginia.

On Friday, Penn faced Duke for most of the day and played one singles match against VCU. The Quakers split their doubles matches 1-1 and finished 3-1 in singles play.

Saturday’s competition was against Virginia. Penn lost both doubles matches and won one out of four singles matches.

On Sunday, Penn competed with Georgetown. The team lost both doubles matches but achieved a 3-0 record in singles play to close out the tournament.

Freshmen Vojtech Vales and Nischal Spurling made their first appearances for Penn during this event. Manfredi Graziani also began his season after earning All-Ivy honors last year.

Match results included:
– On Friday against Duke/VCU: In doubles, Gerard Planelles/Dylan Long (Duke) defeated Manfredi Graziani/Vojtech Vales (Penn), while Nischal Spurling/Shaurya Bharadwaj (Penn) beat Teddy Truwitt/Alex Visser (Duke). In singles, wins came from Graziani over Visser (Duke), Bharadwaj over Planelles (Duke), and Spurling over Alfred Almasi (VCU). Vales fell to Dylan Long (Duke).
– On Saturday versus Virginia: Both Penn pairs lost in doubles. In singles, Graziani won against Dylan Dietrich; Bharadwaj, Vales, and Spurling each lost their respective matches.
– On Sunday versus Georgetown: Both doubles teams from Penn were defeated. Singles victories were earned by Bharadwaj over Sahil Morey, Spurling over Joshua Lamm-Bocharov, and Vales over Jonah Hill.
