The University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team is set to compete in the Orange and Blue Classic in Charlottesville, Virginia this weekend. The event will start on Friday and continue through Sunday.
The Quakers’ schedule includes matches against Duke and VCU on Friday at 9 a.m., followed by a match against Virginia on Saturday at 9 a.m., and concluding with Georgetown on Sunday at 9 a.m.
Penn’s incoming freshman class, consisting of Adam Bain, Nischal Spurling, and Vojtech Vales, has been recognized as the highest ranked in program history. Tennis Recruiting Network placed the group fifth nationally among all recruiting classes.
Senior Manfredi Graziani returns after being named to the second team All-Ivy Singles last April. He begins the season ranked 117th in the ITA Singles preseason poll. Graziani teams up with junior Aaron Sandler in doubles; together they are ranked 67th in the doubles poll.
Most of last year’s roster remains intact for Penn, including Parashar Bharadwaj, Shaurya Bharadwaj, Luka Butera, Sanjeev Chundu, Justin Chung, Stephan Gershfeld, Matthew Rutter, and Aaron Sandler.
Head coach Rich Bonfiglio enters his fourth season leading the Quakers. Last season under Bonfiglio’s guidance, Penn achieved a program-best 21 wins overall and set a record with 17 home victories. The team also reached No. 28 in the ITA rankings—its second-highest ranking ever.
