Penn men’s swimming defeats Dartmouth but falls to Yale on senior day

The University of Pennsylvania men’s swimming and diving team competed in a tri-meet at Sheerr Pool on Saturday, achieving a 184-116 win over Dartmouth while falling to Yale, 97-203. The event coincided with Senior Day, where seniors Alex Fu, James Curreri, Neo Matsuyama, Ryan McGuirk, Truman Armstrong, and Xavier Hill were recognized for their contributions to the program.

Penn swimmers delivered strong performances across several events. Sophomore Eddie Jin won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:35.52 and also placed second in the 100 freestyle (44.47). Max Malakhovets secured first place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:45.68. Other notable results included Penn’s ‘A’ relay finishing third in the men’s 200 medley relay (1:27.92), and Liam Campbell placing second in the men’s 50 freestyle (20.10).

Additional highlights from the meet saw Watson Nguyen take second in the men’s 100 breaststroke (52.69), while Peter Whittington finished second in both the men’s 200 butterfly (1:45.81) and men’s 200 breaststroke (1:57.67). In distance events, Aaron Jia took third in the men’s 1000 freestyle (9:12.60).

The Quakers also finished second in the final event of the day, the men’s 400 freestyle relay, with Eddie Jin, Can Yeniay, James Curreri, and Alex Fu clocking a combined time of 2:59.97.

Senior Day provided an opportunity for recognition as head coach Mike Schnur acknowledged the efforts of graduating athletes throughout their collegiate careers.
