The University of Pennsylvania men’s lacrosse team mounted a significant comeback on March 28, defeating Dartmouth 16-14 after trailing by eight goals late in the third quarter.
The result is important for Penn, as it improves their Ivy League record and demonstrates resilience heading into the final stretch of the season. The Quakers’ victory came after scoring ten unanswered goals to overcome a substantial deficit at Scully-Fahey Field.
Penn was behind 14-6 with less than four minutes remaining in the third quarter before initiating their rally. Davis Provost led the offense with four goals and an assist, tying his season and career high. Ben Beacham recorded his first hat trick for Penn, including a goal that started the decisive run. Other contributors included Griffin Scane and Nate Lucchesi with two goals and an assist each, while Jackson Maher added one goal and two assists. Declan Monahan entered as goalkeeper in the fourth quarter, making three saves without conceding a goal during Penn’s comeback.
Dartmouth began strongly by scoring four times within just over four minutes of play. The Big Green maintained momentum through much of the second and third quarters before Penn responded late in the third period with three quick goals to narrow the gap. In the fourth quarter, Penn’s offense continued its surge while Monahan helped shut out Dartmouth.
With this win, Penn moves to a 5-4 overall record (2-1 Ivy League). Their next game will be against defending NCAA champion Cornell at Franklin Field on Alumni Day.
