The University of Pennsylvania men’s lacrosse team, ranked 20th nationally, will play a crucial Ivy League match against Brown on April 18. The outcome will determine whether the Quakers can secure a spot in the four-team Ivy League Tournament.
This matchup is important because a win would allow Penn to finish Ivy play at 3-3 and stay in contention for the postseason tournament. If they lose, their record would fall to 2-4, eliminating them from tournament consideration since four other teams—Cornell, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale—have already reached three league wins this season.
Saturday’s contest marks Penn’s final regular-season Ivy League game due to their scheduled bye next week. The Quakers have had success recently against Brown, winning the last two meetings and five of the past seven encounters between the teams. Their most recent victory at Brown came during an Ivy League Tournament semifinal in May 2022.
Penn has faced a challenging schedule this year under new head coach Taylor Wray. Their slate includes games against several top-ranked opponents such as Princeton, Syracuse, Cornell, Georgetown, North Carolina, Harvard, and UAlbany. Despite starting with more home games early in the season, Penn is finishing with five of its last six matches on the road.
Individual performances have stood out throughout the season. Junior Davis Provost leads in goals (28), points (34), and shots on goal (56), while senior Griffin Scane is second with 22 goals. Freshman Jackson Maher tops assists with 13 and has made significant contributions alongside Quinn Ball among first-year players recognized by Inside Lacrosse preseason rankings.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s game at Stevenson-Pincince Field in Providence at 3:30 p.m., Penn will rely on strong efforts from its roster as it aims to extend its season into postseason play.
