The University of Pennsylvania men’s heavyweight rowing team will compete at the EARC Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts, according to a May 16 announcement.

The event is significant as it marks the championship portion of the season for Penn’s heavyweight crew. The team enters the competition with strong momentum following three consecutive first-place finishes against Holy Cross, Cornell, and Oregon State.

Head Coach Al Monte said, “this was a great way to close out the regular season. Our crews showed good speed, depth, and consistency across the board. More importantly, they raced with confidence and composure, and I believe we are carrying good momentum into the championship portion of our season.”

In recent rankings from ICRA/IRA, Penn’s boats are positioned ninth in varsity eight (1V8), eighth in second varsity eight (2V8), and sixth in third varsity eight (3V8). The race schedule includes heats and finals throughout May 17 for each boat class.

The team’s performance at this event could influence their standing as they move further into postseason competition.
