The University of Pennsylvania men’s golf team finished the first day of the Wildcat/Fazio Invite in ninth place, according to an April 6 update. The event is hosted by Villanova and held at Galloway National Golf Club, a par-71 course.
The tournament features 12 teams competing over 54 holes. After shooting a score of 306 in the first round on Monday, Penn improved by seven strokes in the afternoon session for a total score of 37-over-par 606. Villanova leads after Monday’s play with a team score of 16-over-par 584, three strokes ahead of Georgetown and nine ahead of Navy.
Ryan Chang posted Penn’s lowest individual score as he competed unattached from the main lineup. Chang shot rounds of 72 and 76 for a total of six-over-par 148, tying him for ninth out of seventy-two golfers. Kayden Wang led those playing from Penn’s official lineup with scores of 76 and then an improved round at 73, finishing tied for eighteenth at a combined score of one-hundred-forty-nine. Wesley Hu followed closely behind with rounds totaling one-hundred-fifty to tie for twenty-second place.
Other contributors included Hayden Adams and Arjun Caprihan, who scored in both rounds with totals of one-hundred-fifty-two and one-hundred-fifty-four respectively. Max Fonseca completed Penn’s roster for the event.
Villanova also holds the top two spots on the individual leaderboard; Ryan Palmer finished two-over-par at one hundred forty-four while teammate Vibhav Alokam is just one stroke behind him. Navy’s Jack Tarzy stands third individually.
Looking ahead, Penn will compete next weekend in the Princeton Invitational before heading into their final preparation for this month’s Ivy League Championship.
