The University of Pennsylvania men’s golf team is in third place after the first day of the Ivy League Championship, according to an April 24 update. The three-day event is being held at Baltusrol Golf Club’s Lower Course.
This result matters for Penn as it positions the team within reach of a top finish in the championship, with two rounds remaining to determine the final standings.
Penn finished Friday with a team score of 11-over-par 299. Harvard led after the opening round with a score of 286 (2-under), followed by Princeton at 294 (6-over). Yale was fourth, four shots behind Penn at 303 (15-over).
Hayden Adams led Penn and finished second overall among all competitors with a round of 71 (1-under). He was one of only two players to post an under-par score on Friday and had the best par-4 average at 3.80, while also tying for most birdies in the field with four. Freshman Arjun Caprihan shot even-par (72) in his first Ivy Championship appearance and ended tied for third alongside five others, also carding four birdies.
Ryan Chang and Kayden Wang each contributed rounds of 78 to Penn’s total, while Wesley Hu finished with an 81. The championship will continue over two more days as teams compete for top honors.
