The University of Pennsylvania football team announced on April 13 that it will hold its 18th annual Get In The Game Bone Marrow Drive on Tuesday, April 14. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at three locations across the Penn campus: outside Weiss Pavilion, Class of 1959 Plaza on Locust Walk, and Pottruck Fitness Center.
The initiative aims to encourage students and community members to join the bone marrow registry in support of patients in need. The ‘Get In The Game, Save A Life’ campaign began in 2008 through the efforts of longtime Villanova football head coach Andy Talley, working with NMDP (formerly Be The Match) and The Andy Talley Bone Marrow Foundation.
In its previous seventeen years, the Penn Quakers have registered more than 3,316 individuals and produced twenty-four donors, including former student-athletes Sam Philippi and Anthony Lotti. “The Penn Football program, guided by George A. Munger Head Coach Rick Santos, has contributed to the success of the project started by Talley greatly over the years and only continues to do so in the years following,” according to a statement from the university.
The Penn Quakers Men’s Football team operates under the University of Pennsylvania and fields a roster of ninety-nine players from twenty-eight U.S. states as well as several Canadian provinces according to the official website. Home games are played at Franklin Field according to the official website, while contests throughout their season take place across Northeast states such as Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New York, and Connecticut according to the official website.
Rick Santos serves as head coach for Penn Quakers Men’s Football according to the official website.
