The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team earned a 4-2 victory over Dartmouth on Friday at Ellen Vagelos Field, marking their first Ivy League win of the season and back-to-back wins for the first time this year. Penn’s record now stands at 4-3 overall and 2-0 at home, while Dartmouth drops to 2-4 and remains winless in conference play.

Sydney Mandato led Penn with two goals after returning from injury, while Julia Ryan added her fifth goal of the season. Ruby de Frees made five saves during the match, bringing her season total to 40.

The game began with both teams struggling offensively in the first quarter, which ended scoreless. In the second quarter, Julia Ryan broke the deadlock with a goal for Penn. By halftime, Penn led in shots 5-3 and held a 1-0 advantage.

Dartmouth’s Amelie Leussmann tied the game early in the third quarter. However, Penn responded strongly as Sydney Mandato scored twice and Lucy Mangat added another goal in that period. Dartmouth managed one more goal in the fourth quarter but could not overcome Penn’s defense.

Mandato’s performance was noted as she returned after missing two games due to injury. The Quakers’ defensive efforts helped secure their fourth win of the season.

Penn will next face Harvard on Saturday, October 4, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
