Penn fencing teams secure nine wins on first day of home invitational

The University of Pennsylvania’s fencing teams began the Dave Micahnik Penn Invitational with strong performances at the Tse Center in Philadelphia on Saturday. The men’s team, ranked seventh nationally, finished the day undefeated with five wins, while the eighth-ranked women’s team secured four victories out of six matches.

The men’s squad recorded wins over Haverford (17-10), UC San Diego (20-7), NYU (16-11), Lafayette (24-3), and Sacred Heart (24-3). These results improved their season record to 11-2. Both foil and saber athletes won all their weapon matchups throughout the day.

On the women’s side, Penn defeated Haverford (26-1), NYU (22-5), Lafayette (23-4), and Sacred Heart (24-3). Their only losses came against UC San Diego and Cornell. Saber athletes contributed significantly by winning every overall saber meeting in their matches, helping the team reach seven wins this season.

The invitational will continue on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at the Tse Center.
