The University of Pennsylvania fencing teams completed the Dave Micahnik Penn Invitational at the Tse Center in Philadelphia with a series of strong performances. The men’s team, ranked seventh nationally, achieved a 4-1 record during the event and improved their overall season record to 9-1. The women’s team, ranked eighth, posted a 5-1 result at the invitational and now hold a 9-3 record for the season.
A notable milestone was reached by Andy Ma, the Young Family Head Coach of Fencing at Penn, who secured his 600th win as a head coach during the competition against Ohio State.
The men’s team concluded their weekend with victories over NJIT (24-3), Wagner (19-8), and Ohio State (15-2), moving their season tally to 14 wins and three losses. Epee athletes delivered consistent results, winning all weapon matchups throughout the event.
The women’s squad earned wins against NJIT (22-5), Wagner (15-12), Lafayette (23-4), Yale (16-11), Temple (17-10), and FDU (22-5). These results brought them to a total of 12 wins this season.
Looking ahead, both teams will travel to University Park for another Penn Invitational scheduled for Sunday, January 25.
