The University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s cross country teams will begin their 2025 season at the New Jersey Jam, hosted by Princeton. The event is scheduled for Friday at Princeton’s Meadows Campus, with the men’s 5.6k race starting at 6:00 p.m. and the women’s 4k race following at 6:30 p.m.
This meet marks the first of two appearances for Penn on this course during the season, as the teams are set to return to Princeton for the Fall Classic on October 17.
On the women’s side, Kyra Compton, Lara Cota, and L’Mio Edwards are among those returning. Compton finished 48th at last year’s Ivy League Cross Country Championships with a time of 21:36.4 in the 6k event. Cota placed 57th, recording a personal-best time of 21:52.1. Edwards finished 64th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic XC Regional with a time of 21:26.6 in the same distance and previously placed fourth at last year’s New Jersey Jam with a personal-best time of 14:12.3 in the 4k.
For the men’s team, Nick Carpenter, Sahil Dodda, and Liam Going were key finishers at last season’s Ivy League Championships where Penn placed fourth overall with 101 points. Carpenter was 23rd (8k time of 23:51.5), Dodda was close behind in 24th (23:52.3), and Going took 37th (24:22.5).
The athletes set to compete for Penn on Friday include Nathan Blades, Esfan Daya, Sahil Dodda, Kofi Fordjour, Liam Going, Raghav Gopalakrishnan, George Keen, Chris Larnard, Shamus Larnard, Shane Murphy, Vinay Raman, and Joseph Ruiz for the men; and Kyra Compton, Lara Cota, Kiera Duffy, L’Mio Edwards, Sarah Fischer, Kate Hos, Gabrielle Jones, Courtney Kaiser, Maggie McCabe, Izzy Rodriguez, Aoife Shovlin, Anna Weirich, and Lindsay Yakaboski for the women.
Penn will also participate in other races this month including the Main Line Invitational on September 19.
