Penn baseball falls to East Carolina 17-3 in series opener

The University of Pennsylvania baseball team lost to East Carolina by a score of 17-3 on March 13 in Greenville, North Carolina. The game ended after seven innings at Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

This result marks a setback for the Penn Quakers Men’s Baseball team, which competes at the NCAA Division I level as part of the University of Pennsylvania’s intercollegiate athletics program, according to the official website. The team is also a member of the Ivy League and hosts its home games at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium.

Freshman Jay Secretarski led Penn’s offense with two hits in three at-bats and an RBI single. Junior first baseman Nick Spaventa contributed a solo home run in the third inning that brought Penn within one run of tying the game. Jake Moss started on the mound for Penn and was charged with the loss, while freshmen Luke Pokrovsky and Ben Moulin combined for five strikeouts. Qwynn Ahearn, Nick Guachione, Ryan Taylor, and Nick O’Brien each recorded a hit during the game.

East Carolina took an early lead with four runs in the first inning. Although Penn responded with two runs in the second inning—one scored by Taylor after reaching base on a walk and another driven in by Secretarski—the Pirates extended their advantage with a nine-run fourth inning highlighted by Jack Herring’s grand slam. Colby Wallace added a two-RBI single for East Carolina, who ultimately secured victory after scoring two more runs in the sixth inning.

The Quakers will continue their three-game series against East Carolina on Saturday at 4 p.m., with live streaming available on ESPN+ and live stats provided online.

Penn Quakers Men’s Baseball participates in NCAA Division I athletics as part of its intercollegiate program and maintains membership in the Ivy League, according to information from its official website.
