The Penn Quakers men’s baseball team earned a 7-6 win over Harvard on April 26, completing a weekend sweep in Cambridge. Freshman pitcher Ben Moulin led the effort by throwing five scoreless innings and striking out six batters, while Penn’s offense managed to edge out the Crimson despite both teams recording 11 hits.
This result advances Penn to a record of 12-6 in Ivy League play, while Harvard falls to 6-12. The game was notable for strong offensive performances from multiple players. Eight Quakers registered hits, with Gavin Degnan contributing two hits and three runs batted in. Ryan Taylor matched a program record by hitting his thirteenth career triple.
Nick O’Brien, Gavin Collins, Jarrett Pokrovsky, Nick Spaventa, and Jay Secretarski also contributed offensively for Penn. Moulin allowed only three hits during his outing before fellow freshman Nick Newburn secured the final outs for his second save of the season as Harvard mounted a late rally.
The Quakers took an early lead with three runs in the first inning and added four more by the fourth. Although Harvard scored one run in the eighth and five more in the ninth inning to close the gap, Newburn was able to end their comeback attempt.
Penn Quakers men’s baseball competes at the NCAA Division I level as part of intercollegiate athletics at University of Pennsylvania according to the official website.
