Paul Micenec, a nurse educator at TUH-Main Campus, was honored with the DAISY Award, according to a March 13 announcement. The award recognizes his outstanding contributions to nursing education and his commitment to supporting both students and staff.

The DAISY Award is an international recognition program established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from an autoimmune disease. The Barnes family created the award after being deeply moved by the care and compassion shown by nurses during Patrick’s illness. It aims to thank nurses worldwide for their dedication.

Micenec was described as “the true embodiment of excellence in nursing education” and someone who “goes above and beyond in every role he fulfills.” His nomination highlighted his ability to balance multiple responsibilities as an educator, mentor, leader, and resource with unwavering commitment. “Paul’s dedication, professionalism, and ability to balance multiple responsibilities are nothing short of remarkable. He manages a wide array of roles—educator, mentor, leader, and resource—with unwavering commitment and grace. Whether he is designing curricula, supporting students through clinical challenges, or coaching staff through complex situations, Paul ensures everything runs smoothly and effectively. He never lets anything slip through the cracks,” the nomination stated.

The nomination also noted that Micenec creates a supportive environment where students and staff feel empowered: “What sets Paul apart is his ability to not only meet expectations, but to exceed them in every way. He creates a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students and staff feel empowered and respected. His door is always open, and he is quick to offer help, encouragement, or a listening ear—often when it’s needed most.”

His influence extends beyond formal teaching settings: “Paul’s impact is far-reaching. His influence extends well beyond the classroom or training room. His work ethic, humility, and dedication inspire everyone around him to strive for excellence and deliver the highest standards of care.”

The recognition highlights the importance of dedicated educators like Micenec in maintaining high standards within healthcare institutions.
