Patanakul named GEC Co-Newcomer of the Week after strong vault performance

University of Pennsylvania gymnast Ananya Patanakul has been named Co-Newcomer of the Week by the Gymnastics East Conference (GEC), according to an announcement released Wednesday. Patanakul, a freshman, received the recognition after her performance at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational.

Patanakul secured second place on vault with a score of 9.775 during only her second meet as a Quaker. Her result contributed to Penn’s first-place finish on vault with a team score of 48.725 and helped the team achieve a final total of 194.075, securing first place overall at the event.

The Penn Quakers have started their season with two consecutive first-place finishes. Their next competition is scheduled for Friday, where they will compete against Temple University, Texas Woman’s University, and George Washington University.
