The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team will be represented by senior Maya Urata at the ITA East Sectional Championships in Chapel Hill, North Carolina this weekend. Urata is scheduled to play against Theadora Rabman from the University of North Carolina on Thursday, November 6 at 10 a.m.

Urata earned her spot in the tournament after reaching the quarterfinals at the ITA Regionals, marking her best performance in four years with the team.

Six players will have an opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Singles Championships through this event. Qualification can be achieved either by winning their quarterfinal match or by succeeding in a playoff against other quarterfinalists who did not advance.

If Urata advances past her next match, she will join teammate Esha Velaga, who has already secured a place in the NCAA Singles Championships following her victory at the ITA Northeast Regional championship.

The competition features 32 players from 17 schools across the East section and follows a single-elimination format. The tournament runs until Sunday, November 9, when the singles champion will receive an automatic bid to participate in the NCAA championships.
